FAO in Sudan

Our Team

Being the co-lead of the Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) sector, FAO plays a leading role in coordination of the sector as well as pillar one of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for Sudan. FAO provides strategic and technical support and maintains strong and effective partnerships with government line ministries, UN Agencies, humanitarian and development partners and international and national NGOs.

In its more than four decades of operation in Sudan, FAO has supported a number of projects and programmes that have saved lives and promoted the development of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and natural resources. In direct quantitative terms, FAO Sudan has executed 539 projects at a total cost of USD 423 million. Adding to the comparative advantage of FAO is the rich knowledge base pool of experts that exist at headquarters and at regional levels, which can be tapped wherever the expertise is required.

FAO has 11 offices in Sudan, which include its head office in Khartoum and programme offices in North Darfur (El Fashir), West Darfur (El Genina), Central Darfur (Zalinge), South Darfur (Nyala), South Kordofan (Kadugli), Blue Nile (El Damazine , Gadarif , Kassala and Red Sea (Port Sudan). The FAO Sudan team has over 122 staff members and comprises of skilled technical expertise in agronomy, veterinary, fisheries, forestry, natural resource management, rural development, food security and nutrition.
