Niger - sustainable intensification of crops learning note
This learning note is a contribution of the Investment Centre Division to FAO’s strategic objective which promotes the sustainable intensification of crops. Drawing on the experience of the Project for the Promotion of Local Initiatives for Development in Aguie, financed by IFAD in Niger (specifically the Maradi Region), the note examines the conditions that facilitated the progression from an extensive but unproductive agriculture to an agriculture that is both intensive and sustainable. It also analyzes the local process of innovation and the adoption of these innovations in the specific agro-ecological zone.
This learning note also raises the question of factors that favor the large-scale adoption and diffusion of socio-economic and technical innovations.
