Launch of the "Tracking progress on food and agriculture-related SDG indicators 2023" report

On 15 September, the FAO Liaison Office in Geneva and FAO Office of Chief Statistician (OCS) launched the "Tracking progress on food and agriculture-related SDG indicators 2023" report in Geneva.

The high-level event took place in a hybrid format at the Palais des Nations (Building H 208) on 15 September at 15:00.

At the mid-point of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, the clock is ticking on meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The new report of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), titled Tracking progress on food and agriculture-related SDG indicators, offers a critical look at how far we have progressed to date on the SDG indicators, and highlights the main achievements and challenges faced by countries.

The high-level event presented the main findings of the report, as well as policy recommendations to harness the power of data to achieve Zero Hunger and accelerate food systems transformation.

With opening remarks by Dominique Burgeon, Director of the FAO Liaison Office in Geneva, the event featured presentations and a panel discussion from the following distinguished panelists: 

  • José Rosero Moncayo, Director of the Statistics Division, FAO
  • Valerie Bizier, Senior Statistician, Office of the Chief Statistician, FAO
  • Claire Melamed, Chief Executive Officer, Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data
  • Stefanos Fotiou, Director of the Office for SDGs, FAO
  • Dr. Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Viet Nam Permanent Representative in Geneva
  • Rémi Nono Womdim, FAO Representative in Viet Nam.

Ahead of the 2023 SDG Summit, the event which brought together FAO Members, UN bodies and partners, was an essential contribution to the ongoing efforts to renew commitment to invest in better data and statistics to inform evidence-based policies for people and the planet.
