Monitoring water-use efficiency and level of water stress in Bangladesh
Strengthening capacity of country institutions to monitor and report on SDG 6.4.1 and 6.4.2 indicators

A three-day interactive multi-stakeholder workshop on "Monitoring and Reporting of SDG 6.4.1 (water-use efficiency) and 6.4.2 (level of water stress)" took place in Bangladesh at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) from 11 to 13 November 2024.
The two SDG indicators are complex in nature and involve multiple stakeholders to compile them. The workshop addressed data collection, the related methodological aspects and inter-sectoral coordination at the country level.
FAO is the custodian agency for these two indicators. Ms. Patricia Mejias, AQUASTAT coordinator, and Lucie Chocholata, capacity development officer (IMI-SDG6) from FAO HQ and Ms. Sangita Dubey, senior statistician from FAO RAP were the resource persons.
From FAO Bangladesh Mr. Mohammad Amirul Islam and Ms. Khadeja Kobra assisted the sessions. A total of 25 participants attended from different ministries and departments: Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA), Local Government Division (LGD), Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), Department of Fisheries (DoF), Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), Water Resources Planning Organization (WARPO), Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), Department of Environment (DoE) and Ministry of Industries (MoInd).
