Regional Training Course on the Measurement of Post-Harvest Losses in Asia and the Pacific

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) organized a regional training in Chiba, Japan for countries in the Asia and Pacific region.
The training course's goal was to improve the capacity of Ministries of Agriculture and/or other entities working on FLW by providing training to statistical staff. At the end of the course, participants learned how to use appropriate statistical methods to generate PHL data and indicators, including FLI, and how to interpret and use these to track progress toward the SDGs.
Participants included 18 government officials from the National Statistics Office, Ministries of Agriculture, Food, and Planning from ten Asian and Pacific countries. Participants were knowledgeable about postharvest, value chains and/or agriculture surveys or were focal points for SDG 12.3. as well as had an actual or potential training role in their respective regions. The 10 participating countries included Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Samoa and Thailand.
