Training on SDG indicator 2.4.1 (Proportion of agricultural area under productive and sustainable agriculture), Samoa

Samoa has been selected as one of the beneficiary countries under the Flexible Multi-Partner Mechanism (FMM) project. In this context, the SDG 2.4.1 team of Agri-Environmental Statistics (ESS) provided technical assistance to Samoa on SDG Indicator 2.4.1 in May 2023 in collaboration with the FAO country office in Samoa.

The mission's overarching goal was to provide hands-on training on the indicator, its fundamental building blocks, data collection, reporting modalities, as well as to hold discussions with SBS to prepare for the organisation of a pilot survey in 2024.

The following activities were carried out during the mission:

• Meeting with colleagues from the FAO country offices on May 22nd (afternoon) to gain a shared understanding of the project goals, and their participation in this activity, and any outstanding concerns relating to the LoA.
• Meetings with the NSO (and other relevant institutions) on May 23, 24, and 25 with in-depth presentations on 2.4.1 methodology, data collection, calculation and reporting modalities.
• Discussion of the work plan and its execution in accordance with LoA on May 26.
