The right to food and social protection are key to building sustainable agrifood systems

Year of publication 2022
Food and social protection are human rights. In these times of crisis, the right to food of millions is at risk. Hunger is on the rise. Extending social protection can help us get back on track to end hunger by: (i) securing access to nutritious, safe and affordable food to everyone, everywhere; (ii) protecting and empowering vulnerable people such as migrants, youth, rural women and children; (iii) building capacities to adapt to climate change and withstand shocks; (iv) enabling households to invest in more productive agricultural practices; and (v) Improving access to health services, education and decent work opportunities. Social protection and the right to food are key to building efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems that leave no one behind.
