Guidelines for labour inspection in forestry

The guidelines address issues and principles of labour standards and their inspection from planting to logging. The guidelines are aimed at labour inspectors/certifiers forest managers, management teams and training and educational organizations. The guidelines are based on the principles contained in relevant ILO Conventions and Recommendations, in particular the ILO code of practice Safety and health in forestry work, Social criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management: A guide to ILO texts and approaches to labour inspection in forestry: problems and solutions. The guidelines are set out in five main sections. (1) a background to the forestry sector and the labour issues encountered. (2) a general introduction to managing labour standards in forestry. (3) guidelines in a modular format that enables forest managers to implement them and inspectors to evaluate that implementation.
