The workshop aims to strengthen national early warning and reporting systems by conducting in-depth discussions on the use and improvement of the different tools used by National Desert Locust Information Officers in their daily work and ways to improve them, as well as to propose and develop new tools for the future. This workshop will concentrate on the following objectives:

  • Reinforcing the capacity of the DLIOs;
  • Strengthening the cooperation between the DLIOs of the three Desert Locust regions;
  • Training participants on the use of new tools developed in the last three years;
  • Reviewing the existing reporting and monitoring tools and proposing any improvement or new solutions;
  • Reviewing the current status of RAMSESv4 and discussing the upgrade to v5.

The Workshop was successfully kicked off with the participation of DLIOs from 25 countries and the involvement of the representative of DLCO-EA as well.  The workshop will also include training on the use of the Google Earth Engine for locust monitoring and information production.
