São Paulo: strengthening urban-rural connection
2018
São Paulo City Hall set up three plans to 1) reduce socio-spatial inequalities 2) recognize the importance of rural areas and peri-urban agriculture; and 3) guarantee food and nutrition security for its population, focused on the most vulnerable groups and based on the principles of universal access to food and food sovereignty. Two public entities have been created to develop concrete actions to meet these plans’ objectives: one aims at ensuring food and nutrition security, and the other ensures the continuous improvement of school feeding and fight against childhood obesity.
