Research network helps collect knowledge on small-scale fisheries

28/11/2019 - 30/11/2019

The Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) is a network of over 100 institutions around the world who monitor research and publications for inclusion on the ASFA database. Ms Saida Messaoudi, a representative of the Institut National des Sciences et Technologies de la Mer (INSTM), the ASFA national partner for Tunisia, and chair of the African Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers (AFRIAMSLIC) attended the North African workshop on Small Scale Fisheries, held in Tunis, Tunisia 28-30th November 2019.

Ms Saida Messaoudi showed workshop participants how taking part in ASFA can contribute to increasing the compiled knowledge on small-scale fisheries and at the same time promote an institution’s research. Institutions taking part in ASFA gain free access to the ASFA database’s 4,257 records on small-scale fisheries, of which 484 relate specifically to the Maghreb. Compiling knowledge on small-scale fisheries is an important step towards implementing the SSF Guidelines.
