Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries

in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication

CALL FOR PAPERS - Special Issue on the occasion of the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture 2022

05/10/2021

On the occasion of the IYAFA 2022, the scientific journal Reviews in Fish Biology and Fisheries will publish a Special Issue of high-quality reviews and research articles focused on the multi-dimensional aspects of livelihoods and occupational pursuits within these artisanal, indigenous and small-scale fisheries and aquaculture systems across the world. These include the multiple interactions between these food production systems, the dynamics of exploited fishing resources and supporting ecosystems and ecosystem services.

The focus will be on inter-disciplinary research dealing with the interfaces of ecosystem understanding, population dynamics, experiential local or indigenous knowledge, convivial technology, and the way these facets integrate into social and cultural practices. The multiple natural resource management practices arising from such integration, and the directions they may take into the future, will be of particular interest.

This Special Issue will value research addressing relevant questions related to the sustainability of small-scale fisheries and aquaculture, including (but not limited to) participatory monitoring, ways to combine multiple knowledge sources, such as scientific and local or indigenous knowledge, and analyses of fisheries or production data. Research related to the seven pillars of the IYAFA 2022: environmental, economic, and social sustainability, governance, gender equality, food security, and resilience will also be welcome.
