Help develop a new Hub to support small-scale fisheries

19/07/2020

The Small-Scale Fisheries Resource and Collaboration Hub, or SSF Hub, is a new, multilingual, accessible and interactive resource for small-scale fishers, fish workers and community leaders. The Hub provides open-source tools to strengthen SSF governance and community development. As a collaborative space, the users of the Hub are committed to securing resilient and thriving small-scale fisheries and communities, achieved through the implementation of the FAO SSF Guidelines. This effort is in support of the Knowledge Sharing Platform and SSF-Global Strategic Framework.

The Hub is currently a prototype, which means that it is an early version of the site that people can look at and provide essential insights and feedback to strengthen this resource for all future users. A full version of the SSF Hub will be released to the public in December of this year.

The purpose of the SSF Hub is to create one space where users can easily access the many experiences, initiatives and tools to support sustainable small-scale fisheries, that otherwise may not reach the places and people where they could be useful because people simply aren’t aware of them. Hub users can also share stories, information, ideas and questions while having the ability to connect with the people and organizations behind these resources.

The SSF Hub is being co-created through a participatory and consultative process with partners that work in SSF including fisher organizations, conservation groups and expert advisers. The organizers are eager to hear input and impressions from people who work in or directly with small-scale fisheries to better understand the needs and expectations of future users of the Hub.

Environmental Defense Fund is serving as the secretariat for this process. Please e-mail [email protected] if you are interested in learning more about this initiative and providing feedback. With your input, the organizers hope to inspire SSF actors around the globe. By participating in and improving the Hub, SSF actors can strengthen the well-being of SSF communities and the sustainable use of resources.
