This indicator focuses on the number of morphological traits characterized per accession of the ex situ collections in the country of the reporting Stakeholder.
It is based on information reported in response to question 8.1 of Reporting Format for Monitoring the Implementation of the Second Global Plan of Action for PGRFA.
Question 8.1 requests the Stakeholder to provide the number of morphological traits characterized, for each accession conserved ex situ under medium- or long-term conditions, as reported under question 6.2.
The reported number of morphological traits should be the total number at the end of the reporting period, and not only the number of those that have been characterized during the reporting period.
About 18 000 national, regional and international institutes and organizations engaged in the conservation and sustainable use of PGRFA are registered by FAO and assigned a holding institute code, the ‘WIEWS INSTCODE’. The WIEWS INSTCODE is used worldwide in the exchange of information about germplasm conserved ex situ as unique identifier for the germplasm holding organization. A new WIEWS INSTCODE can be generated by contacting the National Focal Point or [email protected].

The indicator is calculated as the average number of morphological traits characterized per accession of the ex situ collections in the country during the reporting period.

Morphological traits characterized, average per accession is the average number per year of morphological traits characterized per accession of the ex situ collections of the selected county/region reported by the Stakeholder for the reporting period.
