WIEWS - World Information and Early Warning System on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

This indicator focuses on the areas of high diversity in the country of the reporting National Focal Point (NFP)

It is based on information reported in response to question 2.2 of the Reporting Format for Monitoring the Implementation of the Second Global Plan of Action for PGRFA.

Question 2.2 requests the NFP to provide the areas of high diversity in their country and, for each crop or crop group, the percentage of cultivated land under farmers’ varieties/landraces out of the total cultivated land at the end or most recent year of the reporting period. Optionally, the reference(s) for the estimation can also be indicated..

This indicator and question are predominantly intended to address situations in areas of well-circumscribed projects and activities rather than the entire country. Typical materials that are part of on-farm management and improvement activities include farmers’ varieties, traditional varieties and landraces; obsolete and other cultivars that have no or only limited intrinsic value for commercial crop production as well as heterogeneous populations.

The information is provided according to a table as described below.

Column descriptions:

Name of area of high diversity link:aretab

Name of crop/crop group

Total area under the specified crop/crop group (ha)

Percentage of cultivated land under farmers’ varieties/landraces

Year of estimation

The indicator is calculated as the percentage of cultivated land under farmers’ varieties/landraces in areas of high diversity out of the total cultivated land in the country at the end or most recent year of the reporting period.

Show Data

National Focal Point rating for the country/region selected is displayed.

Cultivated land under farmers’ varieties/landraces, percent is the percentage of cultivated land under farmers’ varieties/landraces in areas of high diversity out of the total cultivated land of the selected county/region reported by the NFP at the end or most recent year of the reporting period.

Visualize Data

A map showing reporting countries is displayed using a colour gradient based on the percentage of cultivated land under farmers’ varieties/landraces in areas of high diversity out of the total cultivated land of the selected county/region reported by the NFP at the end or most recent year of the reporting period. Actual country data are depicted as a pop-up box when the mouse is placed over the country in the map.

A histogram of the percentages is displayed by CGRFA regions. Actual values are depicted as a pop-up box when the mouse is placed over the histogram bar.
