Parliamentarian Friendship League in Japan- SOFI Launch and meeting with National Goodwill Ambassadors

Launch of SOFI report 22 September 2017– The Liason Office in Japan (LOJ) held a SOFI 2017 launch event at the UNU in the presence of nearly 100 participants. Naoki Minamiguchi, Chief Technical Adviser of the “Meeting the Undernutrition Challenge Project” in Bangladesh, was invited to introduce the SOFI report as well as the food security situation in Bangladesh. Keisuke Suzuki, Secretary-General of the FAO Parliamentarian Friendship League, opened the event by referring to the impact of climate change, which constitutes a threat to food production. Katsuhiro Nakamura, FAO National Goodwill Ambassador for Japan and a Michelin Star Chef shared his views on the increase in the number of undernourished people.  Introductory meeting between FAO League and FAO National Goodwill Ambassadors organized 22 December 2017- An introductory meeting was held over lunch between key members of the FAO Parliamentarian Friendship League and the FAO National Goodwill Ambassadors, Katsuhiro Nakamura and Hiroko Kuniya. The purpose of the meeting was to establish a good foundation for their collaborative effort and synergies in support for FAO’s work. Yoshimasa Hayashi, Chairman of the League and current Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, attended the meeting and exchanged views and opinions with the two FAO National Goodwill Ambassadors. In the event, Nakamura serves as Honorary Head Chef during the event.
