'ROOTALK' - NEWS - MEETINGS

"RooTalk", the soil biodiversity newsletter

Several researchers, institutes, universities and international organisations have provided detailed responses about their activities and projects, related to soil biodiversity management and conservation in agricultural systems. This information is being made available through a Newsletter, “RooTalk”, with the aim to enhance networking and collaboration. The objective of the Newsletter is to disseminate information of activities on soil biodiversity management and conservation in agricultural systems.

You are welcome to provide any feedback and comments on the newsletter content, in particular, areas relevant to your work (new publication, activities, etc). If you believe that you have a good case study or any information relevant to soil biodiversity in sustainable agriculture production systems that you would like to include, please let us know (RooTalk@fao.org).

Issues of RooTalk Newsletter:

  • September 2001

  • December 2001
  • October 2003

A new issue of RooTalk Newsletter, emphasizing the impact of herbicides on soil biota and functions, is being prepared and will be available soon.

NEWS on SOIL BIODIVERSITY

    1. Keeping the soil healthy. The importance of soil health for a productive and effective agriculture. Extract of the interview to Sally Bunning by WREN (World radio for the environment) media (UK) during a recent meeting held in the Netherlands (CTA seminar). [page 1; page 2; page 3]

    2. Biological nitrogen fixation technology in Uruguay. The integration of legumes and micro-symbionts into crop/ livestock systems is a key step towards a fully integrated soil fertility management approach that will enhance crop production and contribute to the overall health of ecosystems and the people who live in them. See more in this paper by Adriana Montanez together with colleagues published in LEISA magazine.
