| Within the Department of Control of Neglected
Tropical Diseases, the Innovative and Intensified Disease
Management (IDM) Unit focuses on diseases for which cost-effective
control tools do not exist and large scale use of existing
tools are limited. The diseases include Buruli ulcer, Chagas,
Cholera, Human African Trypanosomiasis and Leishmaniasis.
The goal of the Unit is to allow these diseases to be easily
managed within the primary health care system and ultimately
eliminate them as a public health problem. The methodology
applied consist on: increase awareness and advocacy, capacity
building and training in endemic countries for disease control
and management, monitoring of epidemiological trends and drug
resistance, networking to ensure the most efficient involvement
of all actors, and collaboration with the research community
to promote access to innovation and development of new tools. |
