Significant progress on joint action for sustainable livestock sector development

Stakeholders of the livestock sector committed to collective action during the third Multi-Stakeholder Platform meeting of the Global Agenda of Action that took place on 22, 23, 24 of January in Nairobi. The Agenda brings together stakeholders from research institutions, inter-governmental organizations including FAO, the private and public sectors, and civil society from around the globe. The Agenda seeks to ensure the sustainable development of the livestock sector through improved natural resource use in support of livelihoods, long-term food security and economic development. DAD-Net – linking people worldwide. The Domestic Animal Diversity Network (DAD-Net) supports the implementation of the Global Plan of Action for Animal Genetic Resources. The purpose of DAD-Net is to provide an informal forum for the discussion of issues relevant to the management of animal genetic resources. DAD-Net has 1700 subscribers worldwide. They discuss issues such as characterization, conservation, utilization, breeding, data and information management, training and education, emergency planning and response, research and technology transfer, and any other subject relevant to animal genetic resources management. The network has currently 5 sub-groups namely for Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and Caribbean, North Africa, West and Central Africa and Russian speaking countries.
