Links of ProSoil to existing FAO initiatives and databases

ProSoil is part of FAO's Land and Water Information Systems. It is linked to several ongoing FAO initiatives and databases.  Soil description and classification methodologies as well as data on distribution and location of problem soil types is based on the World Reference Base (WRB) for Soil Resources and the Digital Soil Map and Derived Soil Properties, complemented by other publications such as FAO Soil Bulletins and FAO workshop reports.  The references listed in ProSoil have been selected mainly from the AGRIS database placing a focus on successful management of agricultural problem soils.  Apart from that ProSoil provides linkages to other FAO databases, especially to the ECOCROP databases through its search possibility on crops which is compatible with ECOCROP's plant classification and to WOCAT through its search feature on technologies.

These databases can be accessed through the FAO homepage.  They can be also ordered on CD-ROM.  AGL publications such as the Land and Water Digital Media Series or the Soil Bulletins are available through authorized FAO Sales Agents or directly from Distribution and Sales Section of FAO.
