AGROVOC: the last 12 months statistics

FAO/JP Dimacali

In the course of the last 12 months the use of the FAO AGROVOC thesaurus has grown impressively, both for single and multiple resources, with an increase of more than 100% in both cases. Single resources refer for example to a person or a machine accessing a single concept, while multiple resources are sets of resources being accessed by humans or machines.

In line with the previous increases, in December 2021 the number of concepts present in the multilingual thesaurus reached 39 600 (versus 38 100 in December 2020), while the number of terms was 926 600 (versus 799 000 in December 2020), now in 41 languages.

In order to be always up to date, AGROVOC has monthly releases on its website: the newest releases of AGROVOC are available on FAO CKAN. Date-neutral release links are also available, very useful for automated services. Users are strongly encouraged to explore AGROVOC online access options (SPARQL endpoint, REST APIs or web services) rather than using older locally downloaded versions of the thesaurus.

A curious fact: the five most searched concepts in AGROVOC in the last three years are Europe, maize, rice, plants, and plant diseases.
