Steering Committee Meeting of the project ‘’Strengthening Agricultural Water Efficiency and Productivity on African and Global Level’’

“Strengthening Agricultural Water Efficiency and Productivity on African and Global Level” project aims at improving Agricultural Water Management (AWM) in Burkina Faso, Morocco and Uganda with the ultimate goal of promoting sustainable use of water for agriculture and enhancing crop yields, which will in turn translate into higher income, increased food security and improved livelihood for farmers. This project is funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and will be implemented by FAO together with AgWA. The project started on the 1st of December 2014 and it is expected to end on 30 November 2017.

This project will be implemented along three phases:

•Entry phase (6 months)

•First implementation phase: African focus (3 years): where the endorsed project document will be implemented in Burkina Faso, Morocco and Uganda within 3 years.

•Second implementation phase: Global focus (3 years): where the scaling up process will be to expand the project other three countries in Africa, Middle East and South East Asia.

The first Steering Committee of the project was held on the 26th of November 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Representatives of FAO, SDC, Burkina Faso, Morocco and Uganda attended this meeting and discussed the following key points:

•Operation/communication at country level;

•The progress of the project; and

•The practical Implementation/operation plan for 2016.
