The FAO Virtual Learning Centre for Asia and the Pacific (VLC RAP) is a regional-based online, interactive learning platform. Our mission is to provide our users with access to inclusive, engaging and high-quality training resources using a variety of methodologies. VLC RAP was established to support capacity development initiatives for animal health practitioners using digital solutions. Now, it has been expanding to improve capacities in One Health, livestock production and sustainable agri-food systems that are tailored to the needs of the region.

This virtual learning hub provides links to useful information, education and communication (IEC) materials related to ASF developed by FAO and others. It aims to support member countries in the region to build their technical expertise on ASF preparedness, response and recovery.

Concepts of One Health for the Pacific

This course is focused on building field capacity to integrate wildlife and ecosystems elements to solve One Health challenges. The primary audience for the course are technical officers at senior and middle-level, in the field of animal health and production, public health, environment/natural resources, forestry or natural disaster management departments of government and non-government organizations of the Pacific island countries.

Virtual Regional Training on Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance in Bacteria from Healthy Food Animals

This course is designed to build capacity in monitoring and surveillance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in bacteria from healthy food animals, covering a range of topics including sampling strategies, sample collection and transport, laboratory testing and AST data management and reporting. The course comprises of two parts with different target groups: Epidemiology and Laboratory testing.

Animal Breeding Course for the Pacific Islands

This course allows participants to learn the general principles of animal breeding, its history, evolution, and implications on livestock production. It also highlights the global importance of animal breeding and its roles in improving animal performance, food security, and sustainability of our natural resources and environment. As a refresher course, this training builds on existing knowledge of the senior and field livestock officers for effective delivery of animal breeding advice and services to farmers in their respective countries.

This course is designed for extension officers and livestock industry field officers who are working closely with livestock farmers. The training will cover the general principles of animal nutrition and feed formulation.

The course is organized by FAO Virtual Learning Centre (VLC) and the Emergency Management Centre (EMC), in collaboration with the Ministry of National Food Security Research, Government of Pakistan and FAO Pakistan Office. It is to support LSD emergency response in Pakistan by providing online courses for national and district level professionals.
