New FAO focal point in Fiji
We are pleased to introduce Joann Young who recently joined the FAO Subregional team as Assistant FAO Representative and will greatly assist FAO activities on the ground in Fiji. In the following brief profile, we find out a little about who Joann is and why she joined FAO.
Name: Joann Young
Title: Assistant FAO Representative, Fiji
Nationality: Fijian
Before joining FAO: I was the Trade Policy Adviser for the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat before joining FAO. Prior to that I worked at the World Trade Organisation for nearly 2 years, and at the Fijian Ministry of Agriculture for 10 years. I was appointed Chairperson for the Fiji Commerce Commission and Director on the board of Biosecurity of Fiji in 2015.
Areas of interest in FAO: I’m particularly interested in working on value chains for food security and nutrition in the Pacific Islands. With my national, regional and international work experience I hope to contribute to building the evidence base, establishing the regional enabling environment and strengthening national level actions in Fiji in these areas.
Positive aspect of FAO: FAO’s multidisciplinary approach in addressing hunger & malnutrition, poverty and rural poverty coupled with its highly competent and specialized staff to support national governments has engendered confidence of member countries in the FAO to deliver on its mandate.
