Dryland Forestry

Much more than meets the eye: Exploring, strengthening and reviving Drylands

The Second Session of the COFO WG on Dryland Forests and Agrosilvopastoral Systems provided a platform for members and observers to draw a strategic workplan for the new biennium (2022-2024). Officially hosted by Tanzania, this Session was held in a virtual capacity due to the current global challenges. This provided an opportunity to ensure a higher level of participation and develop a comprehensive understanding of the value that is contained in dryland forests and agrosilvopastoral systems.

Collaborative, interactive and impactful knowledge sharing was the backbone of this two-day virtual event; and an innovative forward-looking strategy was achieved through a call for posters, technical events, knowledge cafes and more. Members leveraged the results of the call for events, posters and knowledge cafes to design the workplan 2022-2024.

Technical themes:

  • Transforming Dryland Forests and Agrosilvopastoral production systems
  • Innovative ways to monitor and restore our lands
  • Building back better to enhance the communities’ resilience to the effects of climate change
  • Sustainable knowledge management and effective cross-pollination between dryland regions.
