Combating land degradation in Yemen. A national report

The purpose of this document is to review the current land characteristics and use status in Yemen as well as agricultural policies and institutional efforts to combat land degradattion in the country. Despite agriculture's relatively poor contribution to the GDP (18 percent), the sector remains the most important element of the effort to combat poverty and provide employment to the majority of the poor in Yemen's rural areas. It is intended as a guideline for all those involved in organizing the next stages of OASIS and similar project implementations in Yemen -Government officials, international funders and agencies, national research stations, farmers and rural communities.
