Zero tillage development in tropical Brazil

The story of a successful NGO Activity

In this Case Study, John Landers, a No-Tillage expert working in the Cerrado region in Brazil, explains and discusses the human dimension of the introduction of the No-Tillage system in a tropical part of Brazil. It describes, with much perception, the activities of a small number of people working individually and in NGO's who are promoting a completely new system, which has proven successful in more temperate parts of the country, into a more tropical and poorer part of Brazil.  This material is currently used in a course on No-Tillage at Wageningen University and will also be used in the joint project between Wageningen University and FAO: Education for Decision-Making in the Global Arena of Agriculture.
