Japan’s Food Safety Commission committed to raise consumer awareness of food safety on World Food Safety Day

07/06/2023

With the World Food Safety Day guide made available in Japanese, food safety authorities in Japan express support and commitment to World Food Safety Day.

The Food Safety Commission of Japan (FSCJ), aiming to raise consumer awareness about food safety, has taken a series of initiatives including:

  1. Providing a video message from the Chairperson of FSCJ, Dr Shigeki Yamamoto, calling for participation in World Food Safety Day activities, with English captions available on Youtube;
  2. Publishing a “Kids Box”, which is the FSCJ’s reading material mainly targeting primary school students and their parents, with a quiz to learn tips for handling and eating food safely at home; and
  3. Releasing Tweets and Facebook posts on food safety.

In the video, Dr Yamamoto highlights the core principle of FSCJ: protecting the health of consumers. He refers to FSCJ as the risk assessment body that provides scientific advice to risk management bodies which subsequently establish national food safety standards based on the scientific advice provided by FSCJ.

In order to help people recognize that everyone plays an important role in making sure food is safe, and to celebrate World Food Safety Day, FSCJ encourages all stakeholders to share their thoughts and initiatives related to the World Food Safety Day on Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag #WorldFoodSafetyDay.
