O Guia para o Dia Mundial da Segurança dos Alimentos 2023 está aqui! The World Food Safety Day guide in Portuguese is out now and available for download. This means that the millions of Portuguese-speaking people across Africa, Asia, and Latin America have direct access to information about how to participate in the UN Day that is marked on 7 June, making it easier for food safety advocates to raise awareness and inspire action.

The theme this year for World Food Safety Day is “Food standards save lives”. The theme coincides with the 60th anniversary of Codex Alimentarius and encourages food safety advocates around the world to focus on the importance of applying standards in every aspect of food production - from the source to the table.

Since the first World Food Safety Day in 2019, many events have been organized across Portuguese-speaking countries such as Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, China, Macao SAR, Mozambique and others. Thanks to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the specialized international health agency for the Americas, this version of the guide is added to the six official UN language-versions already available. Thus, vital messages around food safety and its importance to food security and many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will now reach even more people across the world.
