Since the 22nd session of the FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean (CCLAC22), held virtually in October 2022, the LAC region further strengthened its participation in Codex through seven regional positions adopted during the meeting. These positions have been presented in the different Codex committees, highlighting that science is the basis for decision-making.

In 2023, as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Codex, CCLAC Member Countries have joined the celebrations held worldwide through various activities, stressing the importance of food standards at global and local levels, for the protection of consumer health and the establishment of fair practices in the global food trade.

In this regard, in order to enhance the participation and capacities of the region, a series of virtual and face-to-face events have been held in different areas including, for example:  "Regional Workshop on Food Safety Risk Management - Evidence-based Decisions", "Analytical Measurement Uncertainty in the Codex Alimentarius", "Capacity Building in Codex Issues" and "Codex ABC", thanks to the support of the FAO, WHO, the Codex Trust Fund (CTF), the Pan American Centre for Foot and Mouth Disease and Veterinary Public Health (PAHO/WHO-PANAFTOSA) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), with an attendance of almost 3000 participants in total.

The consolidation of relations with other regions of the world, and with international cooperation agencies, has been fundamental in facilitating the active and effective participation of the Member Countries of the Latin American and Caribbean Region in the work of Codex.
