EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Workshopon strengthening cooperation on responsible investment among southern Mediterranean countries was held was held in Alexandria, Egypt in hybrid modality on 17–18 May 2023. The objectives of the workshop were to highlight the need for developing principles for responsible investment in aquaculture, evaluate the current status of international and national incentive schemes and types of blended finance for aquaculture projects in Mediterranean and Black Sea countries and discuss the value of facilitating access to finance through responsible investment. Based on the results of previous consultations and workshops, participants began drafting relevant preliminary principles tailored to environmental, corporate governance, national governance and social aspects that could be applied to foster responsible investment in aquaculture in the region.
