The Global Record, released to the public on Monday 09 July 2018, can be part of the solution to bridge the information gap that surrounds many IUU fishing activities, including those related to the transshipment of fish products.

Alicia Mosteiro, Fishery officer at FAO, encouraged State authorities to submit more information through the Global Record which is an ideal tool that will help link information between fishing, transport and supply vessels.

Now that the Global Record has been rendered public, data uploaded can be accessed by anyone including RFMOs, NGOs, retailers, industry and others, in their day-to-day activities.

The suggestion was made during a Question-and-Answer session at the end of a thirty-third Session of the Committee of Fisheries (COFI) Side Event, entitled "Transforming Transshipment: Ensuring the Legal and Verifiable Transfer of Catch", organised by The Pew Charitable Trusts, at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy on Tuesday 10 July.

Reactions from the floor echoed the important contribution that the Global Record can give to this area.
