In RURAL 21, Vol. 53, No.3/2019: Better Coordination through Contract Farming

Rural 21 is an international journal dedicated to topics surrounding rural development, and having the ambition is to further strategies and policies that strengthen rural areas for developing and newly industrialising countries and encourage their implementation. Relevant themes in this journal include agriculture and fisheries via capacity building and education through to health and social security, energy supply and trade. The ambition of Rural 21 is to provide space for dialogue between science and politics, the private sector, civil society and practitioners.

FAO team working on the topic of contract farming, Bullon, Viinikainen, Li, Rizzo, Remengesau, have recently published a piece entitled Better Coordination through Contract Farming. 

The publication tackles the topic of contract farming through the lense of globalisation and transformations of the agrifood systems, examining what CF is, and why is there growing interest in it? The publication further concentrates on the need for CF to be efficient, inclusive and responsible, the advantages and disadvantages for both buyers and producers.

This publication features the Contract Farming Resource Centre as a  "one-stop" site where information on CF is made freely available.
