Land ho! Arrival in Durban, South Africa

The scientific crew leaving the vessel in Durban

After a journey across the Indian Ocean that departed from Jakarta, Indonesia on 26 June, the Nansen finally reached its final port for this Indian Ocean survey voyage on Thursday, 6 August. The crew was excited to dock in Durban, South Africa, following the second leg of the Indian Ocean survey, which began in Port Louis, Mauritius.

A pilot was lowered onto the R/V Dr. Fridtjof Nansen to guide the ship into port.

Through these blog posts, we’ve provided you with an overview of the type of research activities on board the Nansen, and introduced you to many members of our enthusiastic, international team of scientists.

We look forward to welcoming you back on board for our next Nansen survey trip.

In the meantime, we wish all the Nansen scientists and crew a safe arrival to their final destinations, and thank them for having allowed us to travel vicariously aboard alongside them on this fascinating voyage across the Indian Ocean. Until next time!
