Webinar “Evaluating impacts of AFOLU projects to Uganda's NDC – an EX-ACT analysis

News - 05.08.2020

The webinar “Evaluating impacts of AFOLU projects to Uganda's NDC – an EX-ACT analysis” was held on Thursday July 30th 2020, as a part of a pilot project, jointly funded by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Bank. The project undertook a greenhouse gas (GHG) assessment of thirty-three agricultural, forestry and other land-use change (AFOLU) projects implemented in Uganda from 2010 to 2020.

The project built a database of the AFOLU projects and then used FAO’s Ex-Ante Carbon Balance Tool (EX-ACT) to perform a GHG assessment of each of the individual projects. The total annual GHG impact of the projects was then compared to Uganda’s NDC ambitious target of converting the AFOLU sector into a net sink of -11.7 million tCO2e  per year by 2030. The work highlights the potential gap between current levels of investment and activity in Uganda’s AFOLU sector and the country’s NDC.
