MUFPP monitoring framework handbook launched

CRFS and other tools to track food system transformation

03/11/2021

On 20th October, 2021, during the 7th MUFPP Global Forum (Barcelona), FAO and RUAF co-organized a side event on the topic “Tools for tracking food system transformation: The MUFPP Monitoring Framework and related approaches”.

During the event, the new MUFPP monitoring framework handbook and resource pack were launched. Representatives of three cities (Antananarivo, Madagascar; New Haven, USA; Quito, Ecuador; Shanghai, China) shared practical examples on how cities were implementing the monitoring framework and using data to track progress on food strategy/policy. The lead author of the handbook illustrated how the MUFPP monitoring framework can be connected with other related approaches addressing climate change.

Cities are encouraged to use this handbook to monitor their urban food system.

The event also publicized the forthcoming City Region Food Systems Assessment and Planning Process manual and online toolkit. This manual and online toolkit is developed based on the results and lessons learned from a total of 11 cities that piloted the process from 2015 to 2018 and from 2019 to 2022. These resources are designed to accompany project teams through a participatory process to strengthen the sustainability of city region food systems and build resilience to climate and pandemic-related hazards. FAO and RUAF are committed to supporting ongoing learning exchanges between implementing city regions.
