European Price Report - July 2023

Year published: 2023

Inflation continues to decline in the European area, but disposable income is still impacted, especially given the varying price recovery patterns and the sharp rise in mortgage interest rates over the past year. The overall demand for seafood is surprisingly low even compared to last year, which was not a particularly strong year in terms of demand. As a result, many prices of fish products are decreasing. Only the higher valued items, such as lobsters and huge specimens of demersal fish experienced price hikes during July 2023. Normally demand for shrimp is strong in summer months, as it is one of the preferred restaurant items, however, this year, demand is very sluggish, leading to far lower price levels, for all species and all sizes.
