FAO e-learning courses: Building a national greenhouse gas inventory for agriculture and land use

As part of the e-learning series "Building a sustainable national greenhouse gas inventory for Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use", the Mitigation of Climate Change in Agriculture (MICCA) Programme, has developed two self-paced online courses. The first course The national greenhouse gas inventory for agriculture was launched in 2017, and followed by an e-learning on national greenhouse gas inventory for land use in March 2019.

The courses guide the user through the preparation of a national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory for the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector, providing also a general introduction to GHG reporting in the context of climate change policy. It is particularly useful for staff in national agencies to strengthen institutional and technical capacities.

The e-learning course contribute to the improvement of national GHG inventories which are instrumental for national GHG reporting processes such as the Biennial Update Reports (BURs), the National Communications and Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs).

The courses are based entirely on the IPCC 2006 Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, particularly Volume 1 and Volume 4, as well as the Wetlands Supplement 2013.
