This latest version has recently been adapted to the Turkish context and will soon be implemented as part of the project funded by the The Scientifıic and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBİTAK) - Determining the Resilience of Agricultural Holdings to Climate Change – in the Köyceğiz Dalyan Special Environmental Protection Area (SEPA) in Turkey.

Köyceğiz-Dalyan SEPA, is one of the biggest coastal wetlands in Turkiye. Köyceğiz-Dalyan SEPA gained its protection status in 1988. The location of the area is in the transition zone between the Aegean and the Mediterranean Seas and consists of diverse geographic features such as freshwater lakes, lagoons, marshlands, canals, and coastlines. Agriculture is the most important economic activity in the region with 1500 registered farmers and orange is the most produced product in the area. Agricultural production is now threatened by recurrent droughts. Indeed, in recent years, the region has been affected by drought exacerbated by extreme heat, late onset of rain as well as sudden temperature changes, frost, fire and storms, thus weakening farmer’s livelihoods.

The aim of the project is to determine the level of resilience to climate change of agricultural enterprises located in Köyceğiz Dalyan SEPA, in particular, orange producers. By determining the resilience levels of agricultural holdings, the project seeks to bring to light the vulnerabilities of the holdings against climate change, and to identify actions and measures to be taken for better adaptation. Changes in agricultural yields will also be examined and specific measures will be developed to reduce agricultural losses.

The SHARP+ tool will be implemented in two phases: (1) face-to-face surveys will be conducted with 257 producers and (2) several focus groups will be organized to present them the results of the surveys, i.e. the resilience scores per module, to discuss these results and to identify action levers to increase resilience and secure farmers' livelihoods in a participatory manner. In the last phase of the project, additional workshops will be organised, where the project results will be shared with stakeholders and re-evaluated with different perspectives.

The project will be carried out under the leadership of the Western Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute and with several project partner organizations: Isparta University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Economics, Muğla Directorate of Provincial Agriculture and Forestry- Köyceğiz District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.
