Contest and discussion: IMD Celebration
Caucasus Network for Sustainable Development of Mountain Regions aims to facilitate cooperation and coordination for sustainable development of the Caucasus region – Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The Network unites organizations operating in the region with shared values and approaches towards the mountain region development, including scientific-based decision making, balanced regional development, knowledge-based innovative solutions, environmental protection and awareness of the importance of tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
To celebrate International Mountain Day 2023, the undertakings of the Sustainable Caucasus Network will focus on youth engaging activities. There will be an essay-writing and photo competition themed Restoring Mountain Ecosystems, a movie screening about the adverse impacts of climate change on the mountain environments and biodiversity, followed up with panel discussion session on December 11, 2023 at Universities in Tbilisi, Baku and Yerevan. Participants of the event are high school students, members of eco-clubs and university students. The discussion panel will consist of environmental specialists, university professors and eco-tourism experts. An award ceremony for the essay and photo competitions as well as photo exhibition of endemic flora and fauna of the Caucasus Mountains will be held during the event. The display and tasting of mountain produce and music recital (folk songs and music) will mark the end of the event.
