The Global Record explained during the twelfth World Seafood Congress

12/10/2017

The Global Record Programme was thoroughly explained in a conference session during the twelfth World Seafood Congress, which was held in Reykjavik, Iceland, between the 11 – 13 September.

The presentation was held by the Global Record Coordinator in which “FAO instruments and tools to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing” were described in detail, including the Global Record Programme and the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA)

The twelfth World Seafood Congress focused on “Growth in the Blue Bio-economy: Practical approach and cutting edge research for market innovation, safe seafood supply and food integrity” and was attended by more than 500 participants.

The World Seafood Congress (WSC) is a biannual event and was first run in 1969 as the International Fish Inspection and Quality Control Conference, organized by FAO and UNIDO with others. It subsequently changed its name to the World Seafood Congress in 1996.

The thirteenth World Seafood Congress may be the first WSC organized in Asia after Malaysia’s offer to host the next Congress in Penang in 2019.
