Farmer organizations, lunch vendors, local producers and caterers share ideas on revamping the Bahamas’ School Feeding Programme

The Bahamas- Stakeholders Meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources officers
30/03/2018

Representatives from the Ministries of Agriculture and Marine Resources, Education, and Health engaged farmer organizations, lunch vendors, local food producers and caterers in discussions towards the revamping of the Bahamas National School Feeding Programme (SFP).

These discussions were informed by findings of a comprehensive National Assessment of the SFP in the Bahamas being implemented under an FAO Technical Cooperation Project. Recommendations from the stakeholders involved in the discussions centres on the need for more nutritious lunch options, nutrition education, and more locally produced food.

It is expected that a strategic plan of action will be developed in the coming months to support the transformation of the School Feeding Programme to better serve schools across the Bahamas.
