Country Statistics on Food and Agriculture (Country_STAT)

CountrySTAT is a web-based information system for food and agriculture statistics at regional, national and subnational levels. CountrySTAT currently provides information for 31 countries, of which 26 in Africa (http://www.fao.org/in-action/countrystat/national-countrystat-sites/en/). Its longer-term objective is to achieve global coverage. CountrySTAT gathers and harmonizes scattered institutional statistical information so that information tables become compatible with each other at the country level and with data at the international level. The main objectives are to facilitate decision-makers access to information and to bind data sources that are currently spread throughout the different institutions. CountrySTAT provides for the member countries a statistical framework with key indicators at national level related to population and employment, economy and public expenditures, agriculture and rural development, forestry, fisheries, alimentation, proices of food and agricultural raw materials, environment, as well as social indicators (human development, education, health, gender, rurality). The CountrySTAT approach is based on the application of data and metadata standards of FAOSTAT and GAUL (Global Administrative Unit Layers), and is accompanied by a capacity-building strategy at country level to make the system sustainable in the long-term.
