Regional Sustainable Land and Water Management (TerrAfrica)

The TerrAfrica partnership between FAO, the World Bank, NEPAD and other implementing agencies offers  a knowledge platform for sharing lessons and developing tools and learning materials for scaling up and mainstreaming sustainable land management (SLM) into development planning and relevant sectoral and investment plans, portfolios and policy frameworks in 30 African countries. One of the main tools of the TerrAfrica platform is the Country SLM Investment Framework (CSIF), which aims to provide guidance on the design and implementation of the SLM investment frameworks at national level.

TerrAfrica aims to scale up SLM based on assessments of land degradation and integrated landscape management and land-use planning approaches, with appropriate, targeted financing and policies and measures for providing incentives. To this effect TerrAfrica produced or disseminates a range of publications related to sustainable intensification of drylands, the impacts of land degradation on food production and prices, enhancing resilience to external shocks, such as drought, the role of SLM for climate change adaptation and mitigation, research and capacity-building priorities in the context of a landscape-oriented SLM approach, encouraging business participation in Integrated Landscape Initiatives and financing integrated landscape investments. The publications portfolio also includes several trainer manuals on various aspects of landscape monitoring and evaluation for SLM.
