East Africa Regional Workshop in Arusha on September 18th and 19th

The Monitoring African Food and Agricultural Policies (MAFAP) initiative will hold an East Africa Regional Workshop at the Naura Springs Hotel in Arusha, Tanzania on the 18th and 19th of September 2013.

Following the public launch of the Review of Food and Agricultural Policies in the United Republic of Tanzania 2005-2011 last August 21st in Dar es Salaam, the Tanzanian press has reflected the findings and recommendations put forward in that report as well as the words of the guest of honor, Hon. MAFAP publishes new policy brief on Tanzanian rice sector

MAFAP published a new Policy Brief that focuses on incentives and disincentives to producers of rice in Tanzania. The analysis shows that rice producers in the United Republic of Tanzania received prices that were higher than international reference prices, suggesting that Tanzanian rice farmers are protected from imports.

On the 23rd of September 2013, during the 4th International Conference of the African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE) that will take place in Yasmine Hammamet (Tunis), FAO’s initiative on Monitoring African Food and Agricultural Policies (MAFAP) will hold a panel discussion on “Incentives and disincentives for Rice production in Africa – Results from MAFAP pilot countries”.
