World Food Day (WFD) 2017

27/06/2017

WFD, Theme for 2017

The theme for this year’s World Food Day is: Change the future of migration. Invest in food security and rural development”. The theme focuses on the link between migration, food security and rural development.  The theme shows how FAO contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 2, that is Zero Hunger, as well as harness migration’s potential to support development, and build the resilience of displaced and host communities, thereby laying the ground for long-term recovery and inclusive and sustainable growth.

WFD 2017 Contest

As part of WFD 2017, FAO has announced the art contest for children and teens. This contest is a long-established educational, arts-based outreach project for children and young people across the globe.  Since its launch in 1991, the FAO WFD contest has inspired hundreds of thousands of youngsters from all over the world.  The contest offers an exciting opportunity for children and young people to use their creativity and their curiosity to address issue that matter for the future of the planet and the welfare of its inhabitants.

There are two ways to enter the contest.

1. Design a poster (Age 5 -19) – Children and teens all over the world, from age 5 to 19, to use their imagination and create a poster that illustrates this year’s WFD theme.

Please upload your poster file to our website (http://www.fao.org/world-food-day/2017/contest/poster/enter-the-contest/en/).  All steps are provided there. Alternatively, submit your artwork to FAO office in Windhoek.

2. Design a video (Age 13 -19) – Millions of people are being forced to flee their homes due to increased conflict and political instability.  But did you know that hunger, poverty and an increase in extreme weather events linked to climate change, also lead to migration?  Can you suggest ways we can prevent people from feeling they have no choice but to flee their homes?  If you’re aged 13 to 19, we want to see your ideas on the WFD theme.  Produce a video no longer than 1 minute with your smartphone or tablet and tell us what you think.

Upload your video to YouTube adding the hashtag #WFD2017 to the title and don’t forget to also submit the link through the form provided on our website (http://www.fao.org/world-food-day/2017/contest/video/enter-the-video/en/) to be in with a chance to win.  Alternatively, submit your video to FAO office in Windhoek.

Three winners in each age category will be selected by a jury.  The results will be announced on the World Food Day website and FAO social media.  Winners will be promoted by FAO offices around the world and receive a surprise gift bag and Certificate of Recognition.  They will also feature in an exhibition at FAO headquarters in Rome before the end of 2017.

To participate, you must be age 5 – 19.  The deadline for entries is 10 November 2017
