Windhoek – The FAO Representative in Namibia, Ms Farayi Zimudzi and the Executive Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry (MAWF), Mr Percy Misika signed a new USD400,000 TCP project to support drought-affected communities in Namibia.

The project aims to enable the Government of Namibia to protect productive assets, and enhance food security and nutrition of 1,200 drought-affected farming households in selected drought hotspots across Namibia. Specifically, this technical assistance aims to avail stock feed for core breeding herds, as well as develop water infrastructure along drought-induced livestock migration routes.

The Executive Director indicated that, during the results of an assessment mission conducted by MAWF officials to the Regions indicated that Namibia is facing a very serious drought situation; and as a result, MAWF reached out to FAO for assistance. He also thanked FAO for having responded swiftly to this call for help.

In her remarks, FAO Representative expressed her sincere appreciation for the strong working relationship between MAWF and FAO.  She acknowledged the effort that both parties have put in preparation of the project.  “This shows the seriousness of the drought situation in the country,” she concluded.
