On 21st Rajab 1401 AH corresponding to 25th May 1981, Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the United Arab Emirates, State of Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, State of Qatar and State of Kuwait met in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where they reached a cooperative framework joining the six states to effect coordination, integration and inter-connection among the Member States in all fields in order to achieve unity, according to article 4 of the GCC Charter. Article 4 also emphasized the deepening and strengthening of relations, links and areas of cooperation among their citizens. The underpinnings which are clearly provided for in the preamble of the GCC Charter, confirm the special relations, common qualities and similar systems founded on the creed of Islam, faith in a common destiny and sharing one goal, and that the cooperation among these states would serve the sublime objectives of the Arab nation.

The Arab League, formally the League of Arab States, is a regional organization in the Arab world, which is located in North Africa, West Asia, and part of East Africa. The Arab League was formed in Cairo on 22 March 1945, initially with six members: Egypt, Iraq, Transjordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria.

3 Jun 1957, Cairo (Egypt), when Convention on establishment was adopted, under Economic Unity Agreement between States of D-XD2903 - League of Arab States (LAS). Agreement entered into force 30 May 1964, representing a multilateral framework for economic development on a regional basis. Agreement was ratified by 11 countries: Egypt; Jordan; Kuwait; Libyan AJ; Mauritania; Palestine; Somalia; Sudan; Syria AR; Yemen Democratic Republic; Republic of Yemen.

The institute aim at supporting economic and social development across Arab countries through its several programs; including, national capacity building, consultancies, research, publications, specialized conferences as well as entrepreneurship and information technology. With over 40 years of experience in the domain of economic and social development API’s programs and services tend to provide a tailored response to issues that pertain to economic and social development in the Arab world in a fashion that takes in consideration the peculiarities of each Arab country.
