|  The 5th World Water Forum was held in Istanbul, Turkey, from March
16th to 22nd, 2009. A variety of events throughout the
week aimed to focus on just one overarching theme: “Bridging
Divides for Water”.
The main theme
of the 5th World Water Forum (WWF5) was Bridging Divides
for Water. A further six themes made up the Forum's
work programme, each theme had about four topics.

Advancing human Development and the MDGs sees FAO, together with UN-Water as
Coordinator).

This session planned to set the stage for discussions on
the future of water in agriculture in a context of rapidly
growing water scarcity. As such, it introduced the
debates programmes under Topic 2.3: Water and Food
for Ending Poverty and Hunger and 5.2 Pricing
Strategies as a tool for a Sustainable Water Sector. The
session was jointly organised by FAO, OECD, and IWMI.
To provide an opportunity for the financing
sector
and the water and sanitation community to meet and openly
discuss the need to increase the overall funding for the
water
sector, both at the national and local levels, at a time
of
growing social, economical and environmental challenges.
