FAO at the 5th World Water Forum

Pasquale StedutoThe 5th World Water Forum was held in Istanbul, Turkey, from March 16th to 22nd, 2009. A variety of events throughout the week aimed to focus on just one overarching theme: “Bridging Divides for Water”.

The main theme of the 5th World Water Forum (WWF5) was Bridging Divides for Water. A further six themes made up the Forum's work programme, each theme had about four topics. Theme 2: Advancing human Development and the MDGs sees FAO, together with UN-Water as Coordinator).

Joint session: Drops and Crops:
WATER DEMAND MANAGEMENT IN AGRICULTURE
Photo: FAO   This session planned to set the stage for discussions on the future of water in agriculture in a context of rapidly growing water scarcity. As such, it introduced the debates programmes under Topic 2.3: Water and Food for Ending Poverty and Hunger and 5.2 Pricing Strategies as a tool for a Sustainable Water Sector.  The session was jointly organised by FAO, OECD, and IWMI.
