Water management: Urban and Peri-urban Horticulture

As cities grow, municipal authorities can help urban horticulturalists adapt to the decreasing quantity and quality of water resources.

Whether grown in small gardens or larger fields, using traditional or high-tech practices, horticultural crops have high water requirements. The quality of water used in horticulture is also critical, since water-borne pathogens on crops eaten uncooked can cause diseases such as typhoid and cholera.

The FAO Land and Water Division is looking for an expert in WATER INSTITUTIONS (P4).

The position is open to experts with degree in economics, social sciences, agriculture engineering, civil engineering, or related disciplines, but with strong work experience in agriculture water institutions. Deadline for applications: 18 December 2010.

Groundwater governance: Launch of new project - A Global Framework for Country Action
During the International Conference on Transboundary Aquifers, taking place on 6-8 December 2010 at the UNESCO HQ in Paris, FAO, in collaboration with Partners will present the project Groundwater governance - A Global Framework for Country Action.

The presentation will take place on December 8th, during the side event Transboundary Aquifer Management Projects. (Room VI -9-12:30)
